چکیده
Osteoarthritis is a debilitating joint disease impacting millions of people around the world, but for which few effective treatments exist. It influenced by both mechanical and systemic factors, each may be mitigated appropriate dietary interventions. Unfortunately, patients are given advice beyond, “lose some weight.” The effect weight loss on pain function recognized, less known evidence that diet quality impact function. In this article, we discuss evidence-based strategies additional role an anti-inflammatory progression severity osteoarthritis. We present case from our family medicine practice to demonstrate how medical nutrition therapy can used help with osteoarthritis achieve symptom relief.

Diet-Intestinal Microbiota Axis in Osteoarthritis: A Possible Role
Intestinal microbiota is highly involved in host physiology and pathology through activity of the microbiome and its metabolic products. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common form of arthritis characterized by articular cartilage destruction and osteophyte formation. Although various person-level risk factors, such as age, sex, and obesity, have been proposed for the pathogenesis of OA, the underlyin...
متن کاملMRI in knee osteoarthritis. Application in diet intervention.
This thesis examines two main hypotheses: 1. Obese knee osteoarthritis (KOA) patients can achieve symptomatic improvements following diet intervention regardless of their level of structural damage and overall joint malfunctioning: 2. Rapid weight-loss in obese patients with KOA will lead to improvements in KOA related pathology that can be assessed and evaluated by MRI. Data for the studies we...
متن کاملWhole-Foods, Plant-Based Diet Alleviates the Symptoms of Osteoarthritis
Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of a whole-foods, plant-based diet (WFPB) to reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis. Methods. Six-week, prospective randomized open-label study of patients aged 19-70 with osteoarthritis. Participants were randomized to a WFPB (intervention) or continuing current diet (control). Outcomes were assessed by mixed models analysis of participant self-assessed week...
متن کاملDiet-induced obesity differentially regulates behavioral, biomechanical, and molecular risk factors for osteoarthritis in mice
INTRODUCTION Obesity is a major risk factor for the development of osteoarthritis in both weight-bearing and nonweight-bearing joints. The mechanisms by which obesity influences the structural or symptomatic features of osteoarthritis are not well understood, but may include systemic inflammation associated with increased adiposity. In this study, we examined biomechanical, neurobehavioral, inf...
متن کاملEffect of a Mediterranean type diet on inflammatory and cartilage degradation biomarkers in patients with osteoarthritis
OBJECTIVES To investigate the effects of a Mediterranean type diet on patients with osteoarthritis (OA). PARTICIPANTS Ninety-nine volunteers with OA (aged 31 - 90 years) completed the study (83% female). SETTING Southeast of England, UK. DESIGN Participants were randomly allocated to the dietary intervention (DIET, n = 50) or control (CON, n = 49). The DIET group were asked to follow a Me...
